About Us

The URI Equestrian Team has been Zone 1 Region 1 Champions for the past 5 years, placing second at Zones in 2017, winning 7th in the nation in 2017, and sending individual riders to Nationals for many years. In Spring 2016, URI sent the first Cacchione Cup rider to Nationals. The team rides out of Hunter Ridge, a farm in Ashaway, Rhode Island, which is approximately 25 minutes from URI. Home shows are also held at Hunter Ridge! The team also hosts a limited show, mock show, scrimmage, or clinic at Hunter Ridge once a year.

The University of Rhode Island is a competitor of Zone 1, Region 1 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) was established in April 1999 with the purpose of promoting competition for riders of any skill level, regardless of financial status. Students compete individually and as a team throughout the season. The IHSA promotes development in equitation skills, team enthusiasm, and sportsmanship.  During the regular season, URI competes against Assumption College, Brown University, Johnson & Wales University, Roger Williams University, Rhode Island College, and Salve Regina.

The URI Equestrian team is a club sport, in which the team members must pay dues and fundraise extensively in order to cover team costs. The team accepts all members, with experience ranging from beginner to advanced. The team is privileged to have so many supporters and talented team members- Go Rams!
